I know New York City is renowned for it’s extravagant brunches – but being Australian I can’t bare to wait until 11am to have my first meal of the day.
This is why I scoped out the best breakfast spots in NYC that will satisfy your morning cravings just right. There is still a whole lot more I need to discover, but so far so good. These places are the bee’s knees and will have you returning every time.
Bluestone Lane Collective Café
55 GREENWICH AVENUE, NEW YORK, NY 10014, UNITED STATES
Typically known for their delicious flat whites, iconic avocado smash’s and the many Aussie accents filling the space; Bluestone Lane sets the ideal hangout spot for the cruisy West Village clientele. They have a large all-day breakfast/lunch menu, as well as serving up premium Melbourne based Niccolo Coffee dawn till dusk. After a long deliberation, I ordered the Brekkie Board, Avocado Smash w/ Mushrooms and Green Baked Eggs. The food was superb and indoor dining made idyllic with rustic copper accessories and turquoise tiled walls. If you’re wanting a slice of good Australian culture, look no further as Bluestone has you covered.
151 ELIZABETH STREET, NEW YORK, NY 10012, UNITED STATES
If you’re on a new Vegan diet, I would stay well clear of this delectable spot. Egg Shop has dedicated their menu to the love of Egg Sandwiches, with all of their produce being organic and locally sourced. Be prepared to wait around 15-30 minutes for a table on busy weekends, with the small store being very popular and worth the wait. Staff were friendly, attentive and the meals quickly served – ordering a custom made Egg Roll and Spandex Cruiser Bowl. Egg lovers – I present your new local.
164 MOTT STREET, NEW YORK, NY 10013, UNITED STATES
Another Australian Cafe paving the way for good breakfasts in NYC. With exposed brick, hanging lights and clouds floating high; the Two Hands sit down experience was really enjoyable. My favourite part was the “Coffee Cups of The World” lined walls, with artworks showcasing all different designs. Both the food and coffee were great and affordable – ordering the Corn Fritters, Acai Bowl and Baked Egg Roll. Highly recommended.
224 WEST 4TH STREET, NEW YORK, NY 10014, UNITED STATES
I’ve been wanting to dine at ChaLait for a few months now, and finally found the time to visit. Known for their great Matcha Latte’s and chic interior, ChaLait lived up to my highly set expectations. The Matcha Latte’s were so delicious and the food was just as great – ordering the Smoked Salmon Benedict and Avocado Sunrise. At the counter they also had a large selection of freshly baked pastries available. If you’re wanting something a little different to the norm, ChaLait has you covered.
667 LEXINGTON AVENUE, NEW YORK, NY 10022, UNITED STATES
This small, quirky Melbourne inspired cafe hit all the right points. While theres not much room for a sit down meal at Little Collins, I was more than prepared to stick this one out. Ordering the Eggs Benedict with Salmon, Eggs Benedict with Bacon and Sweet Uncle Fred Banana Bread there were five-stars given from me. Not to mention, their coffee was delicious.
